From West to East by James Palmer
Years ago my lovely wife for 5 years now, Kim and I had decided that we wanted to live in the Carolina’s after I graduated from college. When I started looking for a permanent position during my last year of studying I only interviewed and researched firms in North and South Carolina. So, we were very excited about the opportunity to join Runey & Associates Wealth Management back in January of this year. Our family, which also includes our 3-year-old son, Tyler, moved to Mt. Pleasant, SC from Lubbock, Texas.
Lubbock, TX and Texas Tech University
In December 2018 I graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Personal Financial Planning. Texas Tech has one of the best financial planning programs in the nation, and I feel that this education and experience has positioned me well for a future in the financial planning field. During the latter half of my senior year I interviewed and accepted a full-time position with Runey & Associates Wealth Management. The only time I had ever traveled to South Carolina was for my interview with the team in Mt. Pleasant! It was a “no-brainer” for me to accept a position with RAA. Moving to Mt. Pleasant and working at RAA provided everything that we were looking for.
Moving to Mt. Pleasant
Moving from Texas to South Carolina with a small child and cat was not easy! It took a great deal of coordination and effort. My wife left a week earlier than me with our son. She traveled to San Marcos, TX where her parents live. A week later I had everything packed and ready to go. I headed off into the West Texas sunrise! Accompanying me on this long journey was our cat, who was not the happiest traveling buddy. He gave me a great deal of trouble along the way. Somehow, we both survived!
Kim drove the rest of the way from Texas to Mt. Pleasant with her father, who was a great help to her. It ended up taking me 3 days to drive a Penske truck with my car attached to the back to get here. I have never driven that far before! It was a very memorable trip for sure.
We feel so blessed to be where we are today, Mt. Pleasant has treated us very well. We feel very lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the country - I have never lived so close to the beach before! We are for sure going to miss West Texas. Lubbock will always have a special place in our hearts, but we were also ready to move on to the next phase of our lives. As hard as it was to get here, it will be that much harder to get us to leave!
