Build a balance sheet,
Create a cash flow statement, and
Find out how much you are really spending.
2. INVESTMENTS - UNDERSTAND YOUR PORTFOLIO
Investment success depends on not only knowing the basics of your portfolio, but also the behavior behind your own financial decisions. Contrary to popular belief, you are not completely at the mercy of the markets!
Understand ETF's and Mutual Funds, and which is better,
Know the rules for Required Minimum Distributions (RMD's),
Avoid tax mistakes that cause many retirees to lose money to Uncle Sam, and
Use inherited IRAs and Roth IRAs to pass wealth on to your heirs.
3. REAL LIFE RISK - TO YOUR PORTFOLIO & GOALS
The closer you get to retirement, and especially during retirement, the more crucial making the right decisions becomes, as you are left with less and less time to recover from mistakes or personal hardships. Learn how to prepare for any of the following:
Long-term health events,
Loss of a spouse's pension or social security income,
Failing financial markets, and
Longer than anticipated life expectancy.
DAY 2: CHAPTERS 4-6
4. PORTFOLIO RISK MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES
In a world where the trend is for most professionals and academics to talk about smart betas, dynamic hedging and complicated algorithms, you will learn how critical it is to keep your approach simple and consistent. Develop a philosophy to:
Minimize the odds of suffering irreversible losses,
Maximize the chances of achieving your goals, and
Control the self-defeating behavior that keeps most investors from reaching their full potential.
5. INSURANCE - ANNUITIES, MEDICAL COSTS, LONG-TERM CARE
We will cover how annuities work, from the simplest form to the most complex. You will learn how to evaluate your Medicare and health insurance options. Also, you will be able to determine if Long-Term Care insurance is appropriate for your circumstances.
Understand annuity contracts,
Know how Medicare works and how much it may cost, and
Plan for Long-Term Care expenses.
6. ESTATE PLANNING
Everybody needs estate planning, as it is not just for you, but also for the loved ones you leave behind. You will learn to keep your assets out of the government's hands and direct as much as possible to your family, friends, or charity. Finally, proper legal planning in health care matters can help you ensure the decision-making process is as straightforward as possible for anyone who must make medical decisions for you. We will cover:
Trusts - Do you really need one?,
Medical decision-making, and
Powers of attorney.
